One thing that can maximize your time on the water is to have a game plan and know what type of fishing you want to do. It doesn’t matter if you fish tournaments of fish for fun, in fresh or salt water. If you know how you want to spend your time, you’ll have a more enjoyable day — even if you don’t catch a boat load of fish.

There have been many practice days where I have gone out on
the lake and simply driven around. I wasted a ton of time and a lot of gas. That was back in my younger days, when I was trying to figure out how to fish. Today, I approach things in a much different way. I pick out a couple of things I want to do, or cover I want to fish, and stick to that the entire day.
