MURDOCK — Two years ago, the Charlotte County Commission approved an outsourcing plan that resulted in the layoff of several part-time county custodians. Today, officials are rethinking the effectiveness of that move.

“I’m a big fan of privatizing functions,” Commissioner Robert Skidmore said at a recent commission meeting. “Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. I don’t think this is an area where privatization has worked.”
