M embers of the Port Charlotte Garden Club are working closely with the Charlotte County Historical Center to create a native plant garden on its Bayshore Drive property. The first preparations and weeding took place on Florida Arbor Day as Master Gardener Mary Oakley of the Charlotte County extension service demonstrated the best way to plant and care for a native bush.

Weeding and a design plan were created in preparation for the full Planting Day, which will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 23. The public is invited.
