Cold shelters opened

Charlotte County Office of Emergency Management advises the evening hours of Sunday will be cold with temperatures ranging from 30 to 35 degrees, however, Sunday night will see inland temperatures drop below freezing. Wind chill temperatures will range in the upper 20s. Patchy frost is expected overnight. Due to weather reports, the Office of Emergency Management announces the opening of two Port Charlotte and one Englewood Area Cold Weather shelters Sunday. The Port Charlotte Cold Weather Shelter is located at the Living Waters Lutheran Church, located at 12475 Chancellor Blvd. Port Charlotte. Residents needing shelter can expect the shelter to open on Sunday at 6 p.m. The shelter provides a warm place to sleep for the night and limited nutrition. There is also limited availability at the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition located at 1476 Kenesaw Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33948. The Englewood shelter is also available which is provided by the American Red Cross, in cooperation with Just Neighbors of Englewood and St David’s Episcopal Church. This Englewood shelter is located at St David’s Episcopal Church, 401 South Broadway, Englewood, FL 34223. This shelter is open at 6:00 p.m. The shelter provides a warm place to sleep for the night and limited nutrition.
