DESOTO COUNTY — The Florida House of Representatives approved new House, Senate and congressional districts on Monday. If the new maps are approved by the state Senate and the Florida Supreme Court, DeSoto County will be in a new district with a new representative in Washington.

Vern Buchanan has represented DeSoto County and the 13th Congressional District since 2007. The way the new district lines are drawn, Buchanan would still have to run in the new incarnation of District 16 that will no longer include DeSoto County. Instead, the 16th District will be primarily Sarasota and Manatee counties.
